Lab Workstations for Hazardous Materials
Modular Workstations for Safe and Ergonomic Handling of Hazardous Materials
The VARIO-Flow GAP hazardous materials workstation provides configurable table extractors in a modular design to ensure optimal protection and ergonomic workflow. Instead of a traditional front sash, a displacement airflow created by a fresh air curtain maximizes safety while allowing unrestricted movement when working with hazardous substances.
Solutions
Plan Your Hazardous Materials Workstation in 5 Simple Steps
Step 1: Determine Your Workspace Requirements
Our team will help you select the right fume hood for your lab. Provide the desired width, depth, and height of your workspace, and we’ll guide you through the models and configuration options that best fit your needs.
VARIO-Flow GAP
- 36 Types with different dimensions
- Worktop in stainless steel, stainless steel as a tub with 10mm backsplash, tresp solid core or ceramic
- Base frames and base cabinets for sitting or standing activities
VARIO-Flow GAP Ex
- For Zone 1 hazardous areas
- Equipment including base frame and control box
- Electrical equipment according to Directive 2014/34/EU for use in explosion-proof areas
Step 2: Media connections
Fume hoods can include optional connections such as electrical outlets, gas, and water supply in addition to the standard grounding connection. Our experts will advise on the safest and most efficient setup for your lab environment.
Step 3: Work surface material
Select from four work surface options to meet your operational needs: stainless steel, stainless steel with 10mm backsplash, Trespa solid core, or ceramic. We’ll help you determine which material is best suited for your application.
Step 4: Base frame options
Choose a standard frame, a base frame for undermount cabinets, or an electrically height-adjustable version. Our team ensures the option you select supports both workflow efficiency and ergonomic safety.
Step 5: Equipment and accessory options
Enhance your fume hood with features such as recirculating air filters, undercounter cabinets, or windscreens. We’ll work with you to recommend the accessories that optimize safety, compliance, and operational performance.
Advantages
Effective protection
Safely meet OSHA workplace exposure limits with reliable contaminant capture.
Ergonomics
Work freely and safely with a fully open, barrier-free front.
Targeted exhaust air
Prevent the spread of pollutants into the lab environment.
Energy efficiency
Optimized supply air reduces exhaust air volume and energy use.
Reliability
Exhaust air monitoring is included as standard for consistent safety.
Workstation Accessories
If a lab already has an existing exhaust air system, the VARIO-Flow GAP can be connected by a qualified ventilation engineer or trained personnel. If no exhaust system is in place, proper precautions and installation must be carried out by a ventilation professional or other qualified personnel to ensure safe and compliant operation.
If your lab does not yet have an exhaust air system, a recirculation setup can be installed quickly and cost-effectively. Simply connecting the workstation to a filter unit is sufficient. Recirculation can also be added later as a retrofit, eliminating the need for costly wall penetrations or complex ductwork.
VARIO-Flow Filters
- High air volume for powerful extraction
- Effective HEPA and activated carbon filtration
- Easy filter change
Underbench cabinets
- Specially designed cabinets that are installed under work surfaces
- Comply with legal requirements for the storage of hazardous substances
In nearly every sector of industry and public service, employees work with hazardous substances. Without effective contaminant capture, airborne hazards such as dust and vapors can disperse throughout the workspace, reach the breathing zone, and pose serious health risks. Extraction systems capture these contaminants directly at the source, with their effectiveness varying based on design and configuration.
The VARIO-Flow GAP fume hood delivers a safe and ergonomic workspace for handling hazardous materials. Available in 24 sizes with multiple work surface options, media connections, base frames, and accessories, it can be customized to meet the specific needs of your lab.
