In North America, lithium batteries are classified under UN numbers 3090/3091 (lithium metal batteries) and UN 3480/3481 (lithium-ion batteries) as Class 9 dangerous goods. These batteries must adhere to hazardous materials regulations during transport, requiring specific packaging standards. Typically, UN-approved packaging is necessary for transporting lithium-ion batteries by road, rail, sea, or air. Depending on the condition of the batteries, the transport box must have the appropriate design approval and meet specific packaging instructions per ADR guidelines. They feature different fire protection agents, like PyroBubbles® granulate or PE cushions, tested by MPA Dresden. Our quarantine boxes ensure safety, protection against exothermic reactions, and up to 100% control of potential thermal runaway, depending on the risk assessment and battery condition. Many containers are also approved for transporting defective or critically faulty lithium batteries.
Transport boxes for lithium-ion batteries
Whether prototype, small series, undamaged, damaged, defective, critically defective, or destined for recycling, DENIOS offers approved transport solutions for all lithium battery needs.
